Skills Programmes
Learners are subjected to an evaluation test (RPL) to determine their entry level and learning gaps. Once gaps have been identified, the appropriate training methods can be applied. Learners who demonstrate competency in some areas of the RPL assessment, will receive the necessary credits for them. During training courses, the learner will be assessed through completing summative and formative assessments on completion of each unit standard.
Upon completion of the formative and summative assessments, the learner will be subjected to practical assessments, and based on all the evidence gathered, the assessor will decide on whether the learner if found competent or not yet competent. After all the necessary assessments, have been done, the theoretical and practical tests are filed and the results are recorded in the learner's portfolio. In some cases, photographs are taken on tasks during the assessment, which will serve, as evidence in the learner's portfolio of evidence and a training report will be mailed to the client for record keeping purposes.
Learners will have three attempts at assessment if the learner still cannot master competency in that specific assessment a decision will be made with all parties involved, on whether the student should attend future or special courses to have him declared competent. Our assessment processes are fair, valid, reliable and transparent. It is this method of assessment that ensures our success as a training provider.
Blasting Assistant.
Candidates successfully completing this skills programme will be able to carry out certain functions on a surface mine relating to physical mining. A blasting assistant plays an integral part in the day to day activities of preparing and excavating huge portions of winnable ore reserves for a mines existence. A trained and competent Blasting assistant id familiar with content of the MHSA pertaining to activities related to this skills programme, and is also qualified and experienced to assist a miner in charging up operations.
Competent Person A
Candidates successfully completing this skills programme will be able to Identify and remedy hazards found in their work place. Ultimately, candidates will be able to declare their workplaces safe before commencing with their daily duties, and will eventually contribute to a much larger common goal which is that of “Achieving Zero Harm” in the mining industry.
Occupational health and safety representative
Candidates successfully completing this skills programme will be able to represent co employees on matters relating to health and safety issues in and around the work place. Successful candidates will also contribute in achieving two main objectives of the MHSA, which is “ to allow for employee participation on matters regarding health and safety, and “ to require employees and employers to identify hazards and minimize risks.
Competent B.
Candidates successfully completing this skills programme will know how to safely install and extract various support units utilized in the surface mine industry. This is imperative, as the safe knowledge in installing these support units is just as crucial as the extraction thereof. Safe extraction of our ore reserves cannot be done without this knowledge transfer.
